How to ensure Data safety on cloud?

Cloud computing is very attractive, however, at the same time it raises several doubts about security. With millions of users and their data available on cloud, makes it tempting for hackers too. What are the best practices and things companies can do while taking a decision to move on the cloud to maximize the reward of cloud computing.

Firstly, it is essential to assess your cloud provider thoroughly for their security policies, data recovery policy, track record, client list and type of encryption they use to protect your data. How updated is your cloud provider with new technologies. How do they back up your data and ensure its security. What’s the visibility of your data on the provider’s cloud?

Furthermore, one should ensure security within the company and have proper policies to ensure security. Have only authorized people access the security levels and manage permissions and levels accordingly. Making sure there is no sensitive data available on portable devices such as laptops, tablets and Smartphones is also important. Let the company’s IT Team have full visibility of all the activities happening on cloud to overcome vulnerability and have an effective security intelligence to detect internal and external threats.

5 Points to Keep your Data Secure

  1. No Sensitive Information on Cloud – Sensitive information should not be stored on the cloud. Try to keep your critical information away from the virtual world or deploy appropriate solutions.
  2. Be thorough with the User Agreement – Know how the cloud storage operates! – It’s better to read through the user agreement of the services you are about to deploy. The document which you believe is long, hard and boring may contain the information that you require and will shed light on some focus areas that you’ve been looking for.
  3. Passwords – No easy to remember passwords or doubling one password with accounts of other services! Be very mindful as to what you keep as your password as it takes seconds for the dexterous cybercriminals to hack into your accounts.
  4. Encryption – This is the best way to protect your data on cloud. Encrypted files are more safe and secure than the others.
  5. Cloud Services should also be encrypted – Deploy solutions which provide local encryption and decryption of your files other than the storage and backup requirements.

All in all, cloud tools can enhance the efficiency of your business and the fears mostly are irrational. They can be shunned with some simple steps – ensuring the data safety in cloud!
